BIO

A native of Romania, violinist Tudor Dornescu has completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Violin Performance in 2013 at Boston University. Prior to his DMA degree, he obtained his Bachelor of Music from the National University of Music from Bucharest, Romania, and a Master of Music degree in Violin Performance from Rice University, Houston, TX.

During 2005-06, Mr. Dornescu attended the Cork School of Music in Ireland as an “Erasmus” International Exchange student where he studied classical violin with Gregory Ellis and Adrian Petcu.

Mr. Dornescu has participated in numerous competitions and received multiple highest honors. His most recent appearances as a teacher and performer in summer festivals include the Luzerne Music Center, the 2017 Tanglewood BUTI Summer Program where he performed chamber music with fellow BUTI faculty and members of the BSO, the 2013 Castleton Music Festival, VA, under the guidance of Maestro Lorin Maazel, the 2012 Duxbury Music Festival in Duxbury, MA, the 2010 “Spoleto USA” (Charleston, SC) and the Yehudi Menuhin Summer Academy (Blonay, Switzerland).

Mr. Dornescu has performed across the US, Asia and Europe in venues such as Kennedy Center (Washington, DC), Jordan Hall and Symphony Hall (Boston, MA), Fukuoka Symphony Hall (Japan), Shanghai City Theater, MAO Livehouse Beijing, Concertgebouw (Amsterdam, Holland), National Concert Hall (Ireland), Romanian Atheneum and the National Radio Hall (Romania). Since 2009, Mr. Dornescu performs regularly in the Boston area with some of the city’s finest ensembles. Together with his violinist wife Aleksandra Labinska, he has completed a 22-city performing tour in China as a member of the Mirage Violin Duo.

A versatile musician, Tudor Dornescu plays regularly the electric violin and has collaborated with pop-rock artists such as the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Video Game Orchestra, Evanescence, Celtic Thunder, Sarah Brightman, Andrea Bocelli and many others. His musical inspirations range from the solo keyboard works of J.S. Bach to the heavy metal beats of Metallica and System Of A Down. Tudor can be heard on labels such as BMOP Sound, Soundtrec and other independent recording studios. His non-musical interests revolve around the daily practice of meditation, yoga as well as traveling the world with his better half Aleksandra.
